As the year of 2010 nears its end, you can take time to visualize all that 2011 could bring you. Uplift your 2011 in your visualizations. Take some time with this. Is Something Good About to Happen?

When you wake up, say to yourself “something good is going to happen today.”

Then walk through your day knowing “something good” will happen. When someone calls think to yourself “is this the good thing?” and answer the phone like you think it might be. A friend walks up to you, are they going to tell you good news? Look at them like that.

Anticipation, expecting something good is part of this overall sensation of feeling happiness. Replace “what tree is going to fall on me next” with “what excellent news is going to show up for me today?”

Feeling Good is not External

I asked my kids this weekend “are you the dog doing the wagging? or do you feel like the tail getting wagged?” Where do you stand today? Be at cause of your experiences. Feel good just because you can, this changes chemistry around you. You may at times feel like the tail, remember you are the cause of your experiences. And you have divine help (if you’ll ask).

What is your dolphin?

Dolphins leaping in schools across the ocean bring me happiness. When I focus on dolphins, I feel a sense of peace. What’s your dolphin? What gives you that sense of joy, beauty, a feeling of ‘everything is going to be alright’ with the world?

We all find inspiration in places that others may not. My husband gets inspired when drives an old jeep slowly over rocks. My son gets inspired when he watches world class ice hockey games. My daughter gets inspired when she writes songs. She writes songs, then gets even more inspired to write more songs.

I listened to a recording of author Neale Donald Walsh Conversations with God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1) and he talked about how he almost did not send in his manuscript, because he looked in a book store window and saw all the beautiful books already published. Yet, his books have been a great gift to many. Express yourself, today. Your thoughts, your insights, your gifts to the planet are all needed at this time to help others. You can speak in a way that may help one person feel better — that person’s life will touch many. Even one shift justifies you taking the time to express yourself.

Happiness in Sorrow

When you lose someone you love, to death, cancer, illness, how is happiness possible? I look at my mom, who died young. I look at how much she gave me, how many stories she told me. How she took me to Mendocino CA every summer and signed me up for art lessons on the beach. How many ways can I thank her in memory? I am still not perfectly happy at her leaving, but I am perfectly happy that her spirit touched mine. She loved taking me for nature walks when the daisies bloomed.

The Ends and the Means

Does the end justify the means? The way you live defines you. The way you do one thing, the way you approach every situation, the how of your life is where you can find happiness. Happiness lies within approaching every how with preciousness. For example, how do you hand someone your business card (if you have one)? Do you hand it with care, precious appreciation for your business card? Or do you toss it at them? Shove it or force it upon someone? Take one thing that you do, today, and make it about the means and not the end. The end will change.

Why Pets Are the Key

Well, pets are not the key for every person. But pets are present. Pets live for right this instant. If you can talk to your pet, they are looking around, right now, considering what is good (or what they need) right now. Generally pets live very in the moment. When you pet your dog, or ride your horse, you can tap into that space of feeling present. Consider living in that space of being present. In your present, what is? This is the key to happiness.
